Sakran (Sitapur). Due to fear of miscreants, the villagers of Lakhaniyapur have become their own guards. In the cold nights, they are guarding their houses by staying awake all night with the help of bonfire. Even after four days, they are unable to sleep as the miscreants have not been caught. They allege that the police have reduced night patrolling. However, the police claim that two policemen have been put on duty at night.

On Wednesday night, six miscreants shot homeowner Vedprakash while fleeing after looting the goods in Lakhaniyapur village. The bullets hit his stomach and hand. He is undergoing treatment at Lucknow Trauma Center. During this time, the villagers also beat one of the miscreants to death. The villagers said that on the second day of the incident, the police came to the village and patrolled the whole night, but since then the victim’s family and the villagers are living like this.

Ramratan, Brijesh, Durgesh, Pramod, Bishambar said that despite the cold at night, they do not sleep in their homes. Instead, they keep watch one by one. At many places, efforts are made to avoid the cold by lighting bonfires.

He said that the police only try to keep a check on the villagers. Not a single miscreant has been caught so far. To fulfill formalities, policemen come to inquire about the situation during the day. Police station in-charge Krishna Kumar said that two policemen have been put on duty at night.
